In the spring of 2006, DJ Lil' Tony got together with Roberto Rodriguez and Kimmo Oksanen in the studio. The guys realized they had a common interest towards soulful, yet a minimal techno sound, and after long days and nights in the basement during the spring and summer the first Future Beat Investigators tracks were finalized. Some demos were sent out and soon the guys noticed to be in great demand: practically all of their tracks were signed out to various labels (such as Raw Fusion and Sonar Kollektiv's new Member of the Trick imprint), with several 12" releases to be expected in early 2007.

Future Beat Investigators' sound is heavily influenced by Detroit techno and the current Berlin minimal sound, as well as house and disco pioneers such as Harvey, Ron Hardy, Ron Trent, Chez Damier, Daniele Baldelli, Theo Parrish and Moodymann, with a measure of Marvin Gaye and Fela Kuti thrown in, topped with some Basic Channel - style dub influences.

Though the group's history is still a short one, the guys behind it are all well known heavyweights in the Finnish scene:

DJ LIL' TONY is one of the central characters in the Helsinki club cene. Best known internationally as one of the Nuspirit Helsinki family, local clubbers probably know him even better as the man behind the top club venues in town: Kerma and Soda from 90s to the early 2000s, today Kuudes Linja and Rose Garden, plus a host of smaller bars. Tony is also one of Finland's hardest-working DJ’s with more than a hundred gigs annually in Finland, rest of Europe, Asia and the Americas, runs his own radio show and is the program coordinator for the annual Flow Festival in Helsinki.

ROBERTO RODRIGUEZ is one of the busiest producers of electronic music in Finland, working in genres ranged from down tempo to acid techno and with labels such as Sähkö/Keys of Life, Stereo Deluxe and nine2five. Besides Future Beat Investigators, his solo career and remix work, he's also involved in the groups Track’n’Field, Robbyn Rhodes, Bermuda and Acid Kings. He is also a DJ, sound designer and a radio presenter.

KIMMO OKSANEN is Roberto's partner in crime in the groups Bermuda and Acid Kings and also involved with the Jörg Mager project and remix work of his own. He is a collector of vintage analogue synthesizers and runs his own sound design company Analog Clinic.
