If you like jazz (and not just jazzy grooves) there are only a few acts outside the established jazz community that deliver the true spirit of the “blue notes”. We dare to say that Povo (meaning “people” in Portuguese) is on of these rare acts. With a cool blend of Scandinavian live jazz and programmed rhythms they have already made many friends around the world after their debut release on our Raw Fusion label.

Povo is a duo consisting of Lars Vissing and Anders Peter Andreasen. They both reside in the Danish capitol Copenhagen, which is well documented as a city where jazz had many bright moments during the early days of jazz. While Lars is one of Denmark’s leading jazz musicians/producers Anders has been living the jazz life since the late 80’s as a record collector, DJ and club promoter. Together they form an impressive alliance where Lars experience as jazz musician and Anders knowledge of the “new” jazz scene will help them to cross any boundaries. The Povo sound is already supported by some of the biggest names in the jazz/dance industry like Gilles Peterson, Koop, Nicola Conte, Patrick Forge and Kyoto Jazz Massive.

After spending over a year in the studio Povo released their debut album on Raw Fusion Recordings in 2005. Listening to “We Are Povo” you’ll find an open-minded selection where everything from beautiful vocal songs, deep modal tracks and storming jazz dancers are all in the mix. Even though they might cross in to afro, latin, fusion or even pop territories there is one thing you can be sure of…Povo are 100% jazzin’!
